TODAY'S
PHOTO -
closing in on a portion of an hibiscus.
I planned to give you the full
view of this hibiscus, which beckoned for me to
photograph it yesterday afternoon, as I glanced out
our dining room window. Today, when I selected the
photo, I started studying it to see what it was that
caught my attention.
There was the color and its delicacy and definintely
the rhythm and the flow in the shadows, textures and
the edges of the petals. I, then closed in on it with
the cropping tool and liked the resulting overall
image.
I suspect, in part, that my particular cropping today
might have been influenced by the work of Photographer
Karen Nichols. My friend Rebecca had sent me the link
to the floral
art page of this beautiful fine art photography
site. It's a site definitely worth visiting and spending
some time on.
In addition to the various galleries of beautiful
photographs, there are reflective and interesting
pieces that Karen writes about her work and processes
(see VOICE in the left menu). For the those of you
who are into the technology, there is an interesting
piece in that section - "IS PHOTOSHOP FOR CHEATERS?
Are digital darkrooms only for hacks?" One tip
- If you want to get back to the photographs on the
site, the GALLERIES link is along the top right of
each page. It took me a while to find it.
WEEKEND WISH -
Have as light and flowing a weekend as this hibiscus
section suggests, filled with soft and gentle color.
Bright colors, also, for those of you who wish them.
WEEKEND AWARENESS AND SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES
-
Pay attention to what catches your eyes this weekend.
Is there a rhythm and flow to what you are looking
at? Is it one that appeals to you?
As I'm writing, the different stacatto and jumpy elements
I've recently created in my life are cropping up for
me. "Why not," I suggest to myself, "try
on creating the rhythm and gentleness of this flower
for the next few days?" I will!
Is there a visual in your
life, or perhaps an auditory piece, that you can
find this weekend that you can use as a symbol to
match what you would like to be achieving?
Also, my not seeing the GALLERIES link, as referred
to above, reminds me again how often I stick with
what's expected [links on left, or all in the same
place] and what I might I be losing out on by not
expanding my thinking. How do similar things surface
for you?
Have FUN with all of this!

"You see
peace and serenity. I see an industrious, determined
bird. To me it looks like he is holding the branch,
which at first and even second glance isn't obviously
attached to the plant. Holding it and planning to
use it. To poke the plant? Whatever--he's ready!"
- Mary Gray
"The first thing that popped into my head
when I saw this was - purity amid the muck &
mire. It made me think of how my mind is like muck
& mire, sometimes; then all of a sudden Ill
get blinded with a pure thought an aha! that
seems so clarifying that the muck ceases to be for
the moment. . . then the gray vision returns.
This totally ties in with the bigger picture, because
sometimes one blast of light will shift how
I feel about something and then change the way I
view my world.
Love what you do, Love who you are and then I exhale."

"The egret is ovbviously pondering the "origami"
bird to his left!" - Joel Grubman
"I haven't posted, but each time I get your
pictures you brighten my day. I particularly enjoy
the self-reflection questions that make me stop
and think. Keep up the good work!
By the way the Purple Passion Flower [Issue

deep in the ocean." - Mary Craft
