TODAY'S PHOTO -
the top of a railing on the boardwalk of Green Cay
Wetlands - a "landscape" that we would not
usually expect to see as a landscape.
When Sam and I were walking recently at the new Green
Cay Wetlands, I started looking at the knots in the
wood along the boardwalk, intending to photograph
them for the imagery he and I often find in them.
When I got home and viewed the photos, I was entranced
by this one, not for the knots, but rather for the
overall feeling I get when looking at it and being
with it.
There is an unexpectedness and, at the same time,
a peacefulness, quite possibly because of the strong
horizontals that we referred to earlier this week
in Issue
103. On the other hand there is an incongruity
with the bold, strong, altered-by-man, natural piece
of wood against the landscape in the background. There
is the possible mystery of not even knowing what we
are looking at.
For those that love to play with the zoomed-in images,
you can click on Railing-
Cropped #1, where you might see the profile of
a boy carrying a bell or a small lunch box and Railing-Cropped
#2, you might see a figure inside the entrance
of a cave.
Back to the last photo - a final intrigue. The railing
imagery could be a wavy body of water in front of
the distant land and trees.
With the latter thoughts present, I wish you waves
of joy and good feelings this weekend. May they wash
over you, washing away any uncertainties you might
have.
READER COMMENTS ON THE LAST ISSUE - Issue
105
Mary Gray on the imagery: "The fireflag
seems to be different every time we look at it. I
see the umbrella and can make out three legs, though
not a monster. What the gold and green leaves look
like to me, though, are rockets or some sort of space
craft. Then again, I saw "Star Wars: Revenge
of the Sith" today, so...."
Joel Grubman popped in on the photoing people conversation:
"I love photographing
people and look for the wow effect when people look
at the shot.I more or less look for interesting subjects
facially, not your normal person on the street, burt
a face with character that shows a life lived, whether
good or bad." Joel Grubman
Rebecca Collins picked up on the "What's golden
in your day?" query and totally moved me with
her response: "The way you speak about your
work and art and life is really great Sheila and an
inspiration to me in my own work...
What is golden for me in my day ... your e-zine, my
new puppy, my old pup, and the feeling that my CEO
project is almost done!!!!"
It's Rebecca who taught me most of what I know about
web design and the programs to be using to create
what I do. She designed my first web site and has
become a great friend and someone I can call on at
any time for a quick technical solution. Art
Paw is Becca's own pet portrait site.
Her unique work recently caught the attention of a
major organization who commissioned her to put 22
top executives in her Warhol style portrait form.
When you go to her site, be sure to click on the link
for her
dog blog, either here or on the right side of
her home age. It's quite a beautiful and interesting
blog.
More thoughts for the weekend.
Who in your life has made a major, or any kind of,
difference for you? And, who can you acknowledge
yourself for having made a difference in their lives?
Perhaps you'd like to contact some in each category.
