TODAY'S PHOTO
-
a Powder Puff plant (calliandra haematocephala) "developed
with love from a cutting" in 1975, according
to the signage. This is one of the many beautiful
plants in the outdoor Bonsai Garden at Morikami Gardens
in Delray Beach, FL.
Research on the web indicates that this plant can
vary from a 2 to 4 foot houseplant to a shrub to a
tree which can be as tall as 15 feet. The bonsai plant
above was in the 2 to 4 foot range. Nothing indicated
the growth pattern of this particular plant over the
past 30 years! As a Bonsai, I'm sure it's being maintained
at its current size.
Both the softness of the flowers and the color were
what drew me in.
READER COMMENTS ON THE LAST ISSUE - Issue

"Ah,
I'd love to spend my afternoon like that - oblivious
to my surroundings, blending in and tuning out enough
to sleep peacefully."
Debra
Schanilec
"This is
neat because I usually think of frogs and toads as
squat, but this one seems lean and stretched out.
Even before I read the bit about the various colors,
I was thinking how well it blended in with the tree
and how difficult it would be to spot. The "bulging
eye" also got my attention, but mostly I was
trying to figure out if it was open or closed. (Open
but with the nictitating membrane operative?) Anyway,
given that the frog and toad population is in decline
worldwide, I'm very glad you were able to capture
this one.." Mary
Gray
Debra surprised me with what she wrote. I was sure
she would be commenting on the textures in both the
frog and the tree and I love the love the scientific
and "wordly" information that Mary often
provides.
Both Debra and Mary respond,
almost daily, to the Picture to Ponder photos. For
me, it adds an important dimension to what I do here.
I am most grateful to you both and to all of you who
take the time to e-mail your responses to me.
And, lastly, I appreciate all of you who experience
Picture to Ponder and energetically keep it going.
