n our immediate area of Southeast Florida workers have done an amazing clean-up job on the massive damages done by Hurricane Wilma. Sam and I were driving down one of the streets in Delray Beach this weekend and we were shocked at the amount of cut tree limbs, branches and
dead leaves piled in an orderly fashion out in the street awaiting pick-up.
Among the tragedies of Nature in many areas here are the vast numbers of very old Banyan trees that were uprooted. Amazingly the one featured above is still upright though ravaged. The top two photos are cropped close-ups of two sections of the tree on which I zoomed in.
For those who might be following the software - manipulating or not - conversation
from yesterday, all three of these are as is, except for putting the top two on a blue "canvas" in my FIREWORKS software program.
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
In a conversation with a friend and Picture to Ponder subscriber over the weekend I was speaking
of some of the sadness and depression I, and others, were feeling at some of the sights after Hurricane Wilma's passage.
She said, "Why not show those of us not in Florida what's going on?" My response was that I don't want to take pictures of the destruction and debris. Later in the day, though, I did take my camera on a search for beauty and things of visual interest and appeal . I came up with very little.
After Hurricanes Frances and Jean last year, I photographed some amazing images in tree stumps that were left after being cut down. See HURRICANE ART. I have seen nothing like them this year and wonder why. Is it me? or Are things different?
This leads to queries for today. Can you recall times that you attempted to replicate and improve upon jobs or things that were well-done and complete? If so, did the process serve you or burden you?
Does the spark and joy of creativity come from what's existing
or is it juiciest and most exciting when it comes from a new place? For me, the greatest joy comes from the discovery of, then expanding upon, something new.
