TODAY'S
PHOTO -
a Pond Apple in Wakodahatchee Wetlands
On a recent walk this fruit caught my attention.
Though I do/did not find it particularly beautiful,
I responded, I think, to it's feeling of aloneness.
Contrasted with that, to me it gives off the feeling
of strength and steadiness.
On the other hand, Sam says he gets the feeling
of bewilderment from the pond apple. How about you?
I took 2 photos and then forgot about the fruit.
A couple of days later, there it was reminding me
that I had wanted to share it with you. Nothing
had changed in its imagery. It was simply there.
And, so I give it with you today.
SELF-REFLECTING QUERIES -
Usually, I focus on "beauty" and "uplifting"
images and themes here in Picture to Ponder. Part
of that comes from wanting to avoid the "not
happy."
Though this pond apple is neither happy nor unhappy,
the label of "loneliness" I've put on
it seems, to me, to categorize it as "unhappy."
And, yet I speak of its strength and assuredness
and reaching out.
Three series of questions, thus, come up:
1. Where in your life are you feeling alone, assuming
that your being human fosters at least one such
place? When you are in that space, is it a good
feeling or a bad one? If the latter, do you take
action to shift out of it? If so, what actions do
you take?
2. If you see someone who seems to be alone or lonely,
do you ignore that person and move on by or do you
reach out to him/her? If the latter, what action(s)
do you take?
3. Lastly, if someone or something is not particularly
beautiful or good-looking in your eyes, do you ignore
or avoid him/her/it or do you transform your response
and look for something appealing?
