"Capturing Images You Love With ANY Digital Camera" -

An Online Workshop With Nature
and Wildlife Photographer Linda Vining

I was part of the focus group Linda did for this course. I learned from the materials she sent out, along with input from other participants. For details see COURSE SUMMARY below.

"This 4 week online workshop is designed to get you out and shooting. Intended for photographers and visual artists with mixed levels of experience, the course is
designed both to give beginners the confidence and skills to get off to a running
start, and to give more experienced shooters the chance to explore and deepen the
most satisfying aspects of their photography.

Enrollment in each cohort is limited to 15 people, so that participants have ample
opportunity to share experiences with each other, and to interact with Linda and
with each other via listserv and a weekly online chat session.

The course combines guidance, inspiration, and instruction in a supportive
environment that gives participants a chance to get beyond the 'knobs and switches',
to use digital image capture as an expressive art form.

Course materials are delivered in an easily downloaded e-book format (PDF) over a
four week period. Weekly online chat sessions will be scheduled, and the course
concludes with an individual 30 minute session with Linda via telephone for each
participant."

Foreword: contains information on my approach to teaching digital photography

Introduction: information concerning materials you need to take the course, and what you can expect

Chapter 1: "Who Is 'The Photographer'?" establishes teaching focus on learning to see; contains two exercises - one to identify high energy subject matter for the student, and one to compare photography habits with subject matter preference; ends with an assignment intended to begin a habit of high-volume image capture

Chapter 2: "Interviewing Your Camera" contains several exercises for identifying and learning presets, filters, and adjustments on student's camera; presents two types of exercises (subject based, and camera function based) so that student can choose a preferred way to make thorough use of all the cameras capabilities; end with assignment to 'interview' the camera and identify what it can and cannot do

Chapter 3: "Interviewing Your Subject Matter" returns to the photos taken for Chapter 1. This Chapter contains several exercises matching the new batch of photos against the best qualities of previous (old) photos, and identifying new 'best qualities'; closes with an assignment for constructing planned photo session which will incorporate preferred camera functions identified in Chapter 2, and 'best qualities' of preferred subject matter from Chapter 1.

Chapter 4: "Getting Results" contains several 'tip sheets', including low light photography, macro (extreme close-up), general composition and cropping, and pets/children, with exercises to accompany each category; designed to enable student to incorporate previously learned skilled to take a large volume of photos of preferred subject matter, with optimum camera settings, to intentionally capture expressive images.
